This duffle bag is taken from Karen Augusta's Museum site
www.antique-lace.com(no longer in operation)
she also has a wonderful clothing site
www.antique-fashion.com that you should make sure to browse!
This is the Duffle Bag-
Karen has dated it between 1860-1880
I think it would be a very useful satchel for the lady going on a journey,
or the beach, or a dance(to hold your shoes)

Materials needed(or suggested)
read through the whole seminar- you will see some of my "cheats"
You need about a yard of heavy linen, canvas, or tapestry fabric
if your fabric is 60" wide then 3/4 of a yard will do
(linen can be found at Fabrics-store.com)
interlining the bag (especially if it is tapestry )
with a cotton or sateen would probably be wise
and will require a yard of fabric )
Twill tape about 8 1/3 yds of ½ tape in cotton, linen or wool (optional)

Home-sew
Wool crewel thread for feather stitching (you may use silk or cotton)
A nice selection of threads may be found at hedgehog handworks
5 buttons ½ -5/8 inch in size the originals were gutta percha
You also may want some heavier interfacing to
reinforce the bag opening and handles- canvas, buckram or haircloth
