The Featherstitching on the back is worked one inch away from the edge on the round pieces, down the middle of the two rows of tape on the main big piece, and down the middle of the handles. the original is done by hand. Here is an example of one I am doing by hand, and using braid instead of twill tape as trim. |

Marna's sewing machine cheat
I have a high end sewing machine with programmable feather stitch patterns.
To make it look more right, I used a large eye, size 14 embroidery needle for the machine, selected a feather stitch pattern, and tightened the stitch tension on the bobbin thread, so that the thread pulled to the back.
I then chose one of Maderia threads, Lana wool threads.
It actually looks pretty good even fairly close.
Maderia also makes a cotton thread called cotona
that has the same texture.
